Annabel Hamilton

Bee Edge, Coldingham

Annabel Hamilton farms in the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland with her Father, Will and Mother, Carol. Their 2700 acres farm is predominantly grade 3 and 4 soils on the East Berwickshire coast. Winter crops make up 80% of the acreage with the other 20% in spring cereals, vining peas and land rented out for potatoes.

Altogether Annabel farms across 10 different farms all of which have a different arrangements, be it owned, rented or running under a contract farming agreement. Her own farm at Bee Edge is a Agrii iFarm which consists of on-farm trials of winter crops and taking to yield giving her the most up to date yield information for the particular ground.

The farm finishes between 300-350 cattle a year. Store cattle are bought from all across Scotland and Northern England throughout the year at between 8-12 months old. They are all predominantly Limousin cross heifers and bullocks which are finished. All of the cattle are sold liveweight at St Boswells (Harrison & Hetherington) market every week.

Before returning home in June 2020, Annabel spent several years in Lincolnshire and Northumberland working in farm management.

With her husband Tom she also runs St Abbs Pumpkin Patch in October which has been very well supported by the locals and to date they have donated over £5000 to a local charity.

Annabel is also a Director for AgriScot as well as the Borders Machinery Ring and a Arable Farmer Focus writer for Farmers Weekly.
