Under current Health & Safety regulations, employers have a duty of care to ensure that employees can receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work; this can include the training of staff in areas of First Aid as well as the provision of adequate facilities.

For more details on the regulations refer to the HSE’s First aid at work The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 which provides information to help employers understand and comply with the Regulations and offers practical advice on what they need to do. EFAW+F

The recommended Forestry Commission first aid for forestry policy topics covered by the EFAW+F training courses are:

• Severe Bleeding i.e chainsaw injuries and the use of tourniquet, trauma Dressings and Clotting Agents

• Crush Injury and suspension trauma  

• Hypothermia and managing and injured casualty  

• Lyme Disease

• Getting help without a mobile signal personal locator beacons Spot and Inreach Explorer
