BMR'S LATEST PRE-APPRENTICES READY FOR THE CHALLENGE
The next intake of students for the BMR Pre-Apprentice Scheme have embarked on their two-week induction training at Borders College, Newtown St Boswells.
Over the next fortnight these youngsters will be put through their paces in a number of key subject areas including health & safety, first aid, tractor driving, workshop skills and ATV handling. They will also visit local farms to learn more about different farming systems.
Jill Sinton from Agriparts (Borders) was at Borders College on induction day to kindly provide work boots and protective equipment to the candidates. Agriparts has sponsored the BMR Pre Apprenticeship Scheme since the programme began back in 2019.
After their induction the Pre-Apprentices will embark on a six-month work placement on their mentor farms.
The Pre-Apprentices are (left to right): Finlay Grieve (Nisbet Mill), Shane Dalgliesh (Girrick), Will Parmenter (Coldstream Mains) and Lia Harris (Bielgrange).
Also pictured are Andrew Johnson (left, rear), Kelvin Pate (centre rear) from Borders College, Jill Sinton of Agriparts (Borders) and Michael Bayne, BMR Manager.
If you are a young person looking for a start in the land-based sector or a farmer who would like to find out more about offering a placement, please contact Fiona Marwick or Michael Bayne at the BMR office on 01896 758091 or find out more here.
