Graham Lofthouse

BMR CHAIRMAN

Bankhouse Farm, Stow, Galashiels

BMR is an organisation which he is hugely passionate about and as with the rest of his interests seeing it be a success for the members is of huge importance. Having been a member for over 17 years he see’s the wealth of benefits that can be born from Co-operation be that between businesses or with the benefit of combined buying power.

Graham farms at Bankhouse Farm, Stow and is a third generation farmer. Currently farming 146ha of which 113 are owned and the rest rented. The farm currently has a flock of 600 UltiMate ewes/ewe lambs, these are a wool shedding flock which have been in place for 17 years. The flock is fully signet recorded and Graham sells breeding stock, with all other lambs sold finished. There is also a herd of 80 Aberdeen Angus x suckler cows producing forward stores sold at 15 months old, both the flock and herd are closed.

Graham is in a family partnership with his wife, mother and father. The farm is run on a paddock grazing system with the aim of maximising kg produced per hectare at lowest cost with minimal inputs.

Graham has been very involved with the Monitor Farm program since its inception and started his own Consultancy business called Grazing to Profit on the back of encouragement from members and facilitators that there was a demand for knowledge in an ever-changing industry.

Sport is hugely important to Graham and he has been heavily involved with this since childhood and still is today, both in playing and coaching rolls. It allows him to get that release from work that is so important and allows him to work with others.
